An Oregon native, Steve Hale is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who combines his unique vocals and writing style with an A-List of Portland’s Funk and R&B musicians to create Steve Hale and the Super Soul Heroes. His soulful songwriting builds on the rich tradition of Kenny Loggins, Daryl Hall, Sam Cooke, and Bill Withers, with a love for melody and groove woven deeply into the fabric of his songs. Hale has played and toured in many different bands of varying styles, from power pop (Kashmir) to glam funk (RIA) to rock (The Steve Farris Project/Mr. Mister). He’s won an international songwriting contest, co-authored three songs with acclaimed Canadian rock singer Gino Vannelli, composed music for modern dance, and worked with the organization PlayWrite helping youth find their voice through writing music. On stage and in the studio, Steve Hale and the Super Soul Heroes is a veritable supergroup of in-demand musicians whose credentials include The Tonight Show, the Oregon Music Hall of Fame, and Berklee College of Music, and whose credits range from Diana Ross and Placido Domingo to Curtis Salgado, Blind Boys of Alabama, and The Jaco Pastorius Big Band. “I love to take familiar songs and dress them up in different sonic clothing while interweaving my original material into the mix.”
